We just placed our order for onion sets for planting in the fields. 40,000 plants planted single rowed or 80,000 plants set out double-rowed make and acre, so the 160,000 plants we ordered should make for a lot of onions.
Our CSA share this past week included:
sweet potatoes, green onions, collards, radishes, pecans, tomatoes & zucchini
We are making plans for 2015 and beyond.
Projects already in the works are a new greenhouse and a peach orchard. We have more than 1,000 bare root trees on order from Freedom Tree Farm in Tennessee, considered one of the most reliable providers of trees in the United States. We also have ordered a huge amount of blackberry plants from Boston Mountain in Arkansas.
Our good friends at Ham Orchards, East Texas Peaches and more peach growers in East Texas recommended them, so we know we are in good hands.
It'll be a good three years from now, but as we all know, that will get here quicker than we all realize and then we'll be providing our customers with great peaches and blackberries from our own farm.
We'll post some pictures as the work begins and progresses.
Recently, a good friend informed us of a unique crowd funding site that provides loans, not grants, but loans, at 0% interest to entrepeneurs such as ourselves.
It is a program ran by a group called KIVA.ORG and we applied for the program and were accepted.
If you are interested in helping us with this loan program, they do all the administration and if you give, from as little as $5 up, though this link then they have a matching lender in place who will help propel the loan to completion. Once we get more than 25 people from our network making these commitments, then it helps Kiva to greater promote us through their Twitter link and large network of lenders.
We appreciate your taking the time to consider helping us as we try to expand in 2015 & 2016 and prepare for the future.
This is the link right here
As of today, November 5th, we are almost 20% of the way there and pushing forward

I have a great family. We work hard, play as much as we can and love to grow great watermelons, among other things.
